On October 19th, 1990 a movie premiered in Washington, D.C. It went on to appear in limited theaters on November 9th, 1990... I believe this was the date when the critics viewed it. On Nov. 21st, 1990 it was released in over 1,000 theaters in the United States.
A 3 hour "western" directed by an unproven first-time director who was also the star of the movie didn't give very good odds for its success. But 4 months later, the movie received 12 Oscar nominations... and it won 7 of them, including Best Picture and Best Director.
The movie was Dances With Wolves... the actor/director was Kevin Costner.
While most movie-goers cringe at the thought of sitting through a 3 hour film, fans of this one didn't mind at all. And when the extended version came out that was 4 hours long, fans rejoiced and wished it was longer.
Dances With Wolves tore at my heart and left an everlasting mark on my soul. It was not only a beautiful love story, but a tribute to the spirit, courage, and selflessness of one man who yearned to see the frontier before it disappeared. A man filled with a desire to learn, to experience, and to feel. A man who respected not only the land, but also the people who lived on it.
Dances With Wolves is my favorite movie of all time, and after all these years, I still find it hard to put the feelings it evoked into words. If you loved the movie as I did, I hope you decide to join me as a fan. Read the rules, browse through the site and relive some of the most beautiful and poignant moments ever put on film.

I hope Mr. Costner doesn't mind that I borrowed some of his words to name this fanlisting. They just seemed so perfect to me!
